Man Ri Sung, Richmond BC - Duck Feast

the owner/chef cutting our duck
Went to eat Peking duck at Man Ri Sung as recommended from a foodie coworker!  They serve this duck feast for 4 people for the price of $58.95CAD and I went there with my 8 friends and ordered 2 ducks.  You have to call at least 2 hours before hand for them to prepare the duck.  The owner is also the chef of the restaurant and he is quite chatty.  Apparently he is Korean and he went to Beijing to study how to prepare some Chinese cuisines and one of the items is the Peking duck.  He prepares it slightly different than the traditional way, instead of just skin you get meat along with the wrap.   We ordered the 잡채(Jap Chae) and the 순대(blood sausage) and the hot pot to come with the duck.  You can choose either hot pot with hand made fresh 刀削面(knife cut noodles) with the remaining duck after he slices most of the meat off. or duck congee.  We chose 2 hot pots.  All 9 of us couldn't finish the 2 duck courses and everything was delish! We didnt really eat all of the hot pot as it was a hot day and we were all sweating due to the heat. The hot pot would have been better in the winter or on a colder day..lol.

I love this place and I would definitely come back.  The only con I feel about this is that they hardly speak English here, you have to either speak Korean or Mandarin....they do speak some English, but keep it simple!

짜장면- Jjajang Myeon!!

Book Kyung Ban Jeom
NOTE: My previous post of the Jajjang Myeon(짜장면) got deleted...by me...while fiddling on my itouch..ha!  So I shall just write up something similar and simple.

Had lunch with Co-workers at Book Kyung Ban Jeom in dwntown Vancouver.  I go there when I really want to eat good Jjajang Myeon and I usually just have the Jjajang Myeon as the portion size is pretty big.  They have very good Jjajang Myeon but is a tad on the pricey side.  We ordered spicy fried chicken to share and we each ordered the seafood/squid Jjajang Myeon(짜장면).  The chicken was sized small and was $17.00CAD and the Jjajang Myeon 짜장면 was $10.00CAD.  The Jjajang Myeon(짜장면) ranges from $7.00-$12.00CAD here..if you want to eat this noodle for cheaper, you can find it in Coquitlam at Ddoo Gau Bee.  It is not as awesome..but is definitely much cheaper.

So the other location to get Jjajang Myeon for cheaper is Ddoo Gau Bee.  It is a good inexpensive Korean restaurant.  They actually also serve sushi.. I am talking about sushi and not Kimbap(김밥)...if you decide to order sushi there, don't order the fancy rolls!

DIY Jajjang Myeon(짜장면
I made some Jjajang Myeon and it was pretty successful..well it was a semi instant noodle. The package did not contain any meat so I added my own.  I added some pork and onions to it and it was YUM and very filling.  You can buy this at any Hmart, I think it was on sale for $6.99CAD, it is found in the refrigeration department.

Lunch on Feb 11, 2012- WonJo BBQ Noodle Restaurant

Had lunch at WonJo BBQ Noddle Restaurant because someone had recommended it.

It was okay!  I like the fact that it felt very home made and that the noodles were hot and steamy! I will be going back to try their bbq next time.

They have a small menu which means they do what they do very well.  :)
