Clearly Contacts is a place I shop for glasses now as I feel the local optometrists are a rip off. I wear contacts most of the time so glasses are only for when I am home. There was a promotion earlier, not sure if it is still going on, where
Clearly Contacts was giving away a free pair of glasses for first time customers so I picked a pair. Shipping was about $18.00CAD and that was it....my glasses came in a few days with a case and some accessories. Very fast service and good quality! I do recommend shopping from them.
On another occasion, after I got my free glasses, I was having lunch with a friend and noticed that she's wearing circle lenses so I asked her where it was bought. It turns out it was bought on
Clearly Contacts! I didn't know they sold circle lenses so I did some research. The brand is called
Splash of Color 2 and there are various colours available. They are weekly disposable lenses and come with 6 pairs for $24.89CAD for a box. I picked up a box of Violet Venom and Grey Storm. It only took a few days to arrive and once I opened the package, they are indeed circle lenses. Looked at the box and it says they are made in South Korea. These lenses are quite comfortable and I am very happy they are weekly lenses. The big eyes effect are not as big as real circle lenses BUT they are definitely noticeable.

-Edit: December 15, 2012-I no longer have Grey Storm to take a photo. I am not very good with swatching and taking pictures of my eyes. This is the best I can do. The grey storm looks similar to Violet Venom but is a bit more obvious/fake looking. The Violet Venom is obvious/subtle.

They also have a more natural line called
Splash Illusion and I picked up the black one. They are daily disposable lenses and once I opened the box, I think they are comparable to the
Acuvue Defines. These daily ones are not as big as the
Acuvue Vivids so I will still buy the Vivids but this is a good and fast temporary replacement if you cant get the Acuvues.

Thanks a lot for the review! I should've read this before I decide which one to buy. The colour2 type looks way better...
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, glad I could help! :)

Could you take pictures of you with the different lenses? Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi C,
DeleteI actually don't have grey storm anymore. I used it up but I can try to take photos of violet venom n the other splash illusion black. After using the acuvue lenses n then swapping to splash illusions, I think it's safe to say that I like the acuvue better cuz it feels more comfortable. Perhaps it's better quality? The splash illusions are my back up. I will try to get some photos up by next week. :)

Hi! I noticed that you were referring to the Acuvue Define contact lenses. I wanted to get them myself, but it seems that they are not sold in Canada! Did you get them online?
ReplyDeleteHi Marie,
DeleteThank you for commenting. :)
I did buy it online and I actually did a post on them: http://youngatheart33.blogspot.ca/2012/05/cirle-lens-review-acuvue-define-vivid.html?m=1
Hope this is helpful.

Carmen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your info. I looked at their website and they only offer base curve 8.6. I don't know what mine is. Does it matter?
Thanks.
Hi jk,
DeleteThank you for taking the time and reading my post.
It does matter what base curve you are as it can impact your vision. Please check with your optometrist in regards to your contact lens prescription and they can assist you.
To give a little insight to what is base curve,as quoted from Wikipedia: Base curve radius or simply base curve, abbreviated BCR or BC, is the measure of one important parameter of a lens in optometry. On a spectacle lens, it is the flatter curvature of the front surface and on a contact lens it is the curvature of the back surface. Typical values for a contact lens are from 8.0 to 10.0 mm. The base curve is the radius of the sphere of the back of the lens that the prescription describes. Contact lenses must fit well to the wearer's cornea in order to be comfortable and to facilitate tear exchange and oxygen transmission.
In everyday practice, if lenses feel "loose" and slide easily a smaller base curve may work better. A large base curve may be needed if they feel tight. Lenses with smaller base curves are referred to as "steep".
I actually think the acuvue define and vivids are more comfortable and I prefer them over the splash of colour lenses. I have reviewed the acuvue ones too.
Hope this helps.

hey try other grey contacts for cheap prices here too!:)
ReplyDeleteDo you think the illusion black would look good on light eyes? Tried googling but cant find anything!
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley,
DeleteI don't see why not. It would just be black. You may find weird looking in the beginning but with the right make up, it should be find and rather a pretty contrast.
